There are many ongoing fixed expenses to keep the Wetland Park in tiptop shape, and no regular income except that which is provided through donations from supporting citizens. For instance, every few years the 16 park benches and picnic tables are sanded and re-stained and sealed. While volunteers provide the labor, the materials are quite expensive. Regularly, several new boards have to be purchased for the boardwalk, and these decking boards are expensive too. Every year, the Park pays for regular mowing around the covered bridge and along the highway to keep the grassy path, leading to the Park from downtown, open for visitors. The Wetland Park maintains a membership in the Chamber of Commerce, places a yearly ad on the Chamber's promotional map, and once a year sends out a Newsletter to all of its members. Normal average expenses for the above required services are between $1,600 and $1,800 which must come from new memberships, donations, and from the sale of commemorative bricks (shown below). One more expense, the largest of all, is the wage we will now be paying to have yearly foliar spraying of small emerging buckthorn plants throughout the Park. After a five year struggle to eradicate buckthorn, which cost approximately $17,000 and was funded by our dedicated members, we have entered the "maintenance phase" in our struggle to have a buckthorn free Park, and the yearly foliar spraying described above is essential.
We now have over 300 commemorative bricks in our Memory Walk, and invite you to purchase a brick for your family. You may use this photo to set up your wording, and the order and check of $55 per brick should be sent to Stone Lake Community Wetland Park, N5779 Division Avenue, Stone Lake WI 54876. Thank you.
